The Elementary English Proficiency Certification EEPC

Introduction:

The Elementary English Proficiency Certification EEPC powered by EQUIPO RAMA is a very useful resource to all the English teachers and English students of Basic Education in El Salvador. It has been structured by a group of specialists from the Education field along with the technical commission of the Ministry of Education. All the contents presented in the certification are based on the National Syllabus.

According to the national education program, teachers must cover six content units per grade. This certification contains quizzes for seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh grades. Every test is divided into four sections to cover not only skills such as Reading and Listening, but also skills like Vocabulary and Grammar. Each of these four sections has been standardized with five multiple-choice questions, with an exception in the listening section where six questions are presented, making a total of twenty-one questions per test.

The Vocabulary section contains questions related to new words: meaning and use. The students are also challenged to find synonyms or antonyms of words and phrases they already know and to use the new vocabulary in context.

The Grammar Section provides the opportunity for our students to demonstrate how much they know about the usage of basic grammar structures and tenses in the English language.

The Reading Section provides a variety of short texts and dialogues to test the reading sub-skills such as skimming, scanning and inferring, which are fundamental skills to develop in every student to create a solid base that encourages them to continue their studies in this field.

The Listening Section contains recorded material with clear speech on short audio tracks of conversations and readings. Students must identify main ideas or answer questions with very specific information. This section includes six questions, three of them emphasize the understanding of written texts and the rest put into practice the understanding of dialogues about daily living situations within domestic, academic and professional environments.
